If you’re moving or removing old posts from your WordPress website you might want to set up some clever redirects from old posts to new ones to make sure you won’t miss any traffic.
Unfortunately WordPress does not have native functionality for redirects. But the great thing is that you can use free and very easy to use WordPress plugin for redirecting old post or page links. Here’s how you do it.
How to redirect pages and posts in WordPress
First thing you need to do is go to Plugins >> Add New in your WordPress admin panel. Enter redirect to search box at the top of the page. One of the first plugins in WordPress plugin respository will be Redirection.
Click Install now, and activate plugin once it’s installed. Now you can go to Tools >> Redirection.
Here’s some simple instruction you’ll see on the first run:
Click Start Setup.
You can skip these settings and hit Continue Setup.
Click Finish Setup, and plugin will be ready to use.
How to redirect any page, post, or any other link in your WordPress website
Now once plugin in ready, you can create your first WordPress post or page redirect.
Enter link to your old post or page which you want to redirect into Source URL field.
Enter new link to Target URL, and hit Add redirect button.
That’s it – your redirect is created.
You’ll be able to see all of your redirects in the same Tools >> Redirection page.
By the way, you can also check if anyone is using your redirects – plugin automatically counts how many time redirect was used (Hits column) and when it was used last time (Last access column).
